Bogardus Plaza
Originally a temporary street closure adjacent to Bogardus Garden, Bogardus Plaza was permanently constructed through community advocacy and DOT collaboration. The space features new plantings, seating, lighting, and a custom-designed food kiosk, supporting programming and local maintenance. The design honors neighborhood history and was developed with extensive community input.
181st Street Busway
Implemented in 2021, the 181st Street busway improves service for 68,000 daily bus riders by increasing speeds, calming traffic, and supporting commercial access. Located in Washington Heights, the two-way busway prioritizes buses and essential vehicles, with local access preserved from side streets. Following extensive outreach and measurable gains in reliability, the pilot was made permanent.
Dining Out NYC Setup Menu
The Dining Out NYC Setup Menu pilot created modular prototypes for outdoor dining the City’s permanent program. Installed across four neighborhoods, the prototypes tested real-world conditions and included custom designs for different street types. Lessons learned informed updated drawings and a public-facing Marketplace, helping food service establishments launch compliant and vibrant roadway cafes citywide.
Landscape Maintenance Program
DOT’s Landscape Maintenance program focuses on caring for planted areas in the public Right-of-Way installed as part of Vision Zero, priority bus, and priority bike projects in disinvested areas of the city.
